It happened like this ... [Written by Amy] Well first of all, I did not know if I was really in labor on Saturday, April 17th. Because I did not have true contractions with Eden, I did not know what they felt like! I had the contractions starting Friday night and then all day Saturday. When I could not nap through them, we decided to head to the hospital (5:30 PM). We dropped Eden off at very good friends of ours (Albert and Jennifer Garcia) and off we went. We arrived at Arnold Palmer Hospital at about 6:00 PM. I was checked and I was 4 cm. Yippee!!! This was it! The nurse called our nurse midwife, and Alex called my doula (childbirth assistant), Melanie, as well as Grandparents Foster. They left right away from Tampa. Melanie lives in Orlando and arrived at about 7:00 PM. Because Eden's labor and birth went so fast, Grandparents Foster did not make it in time to see Eden born. I really wanted them there for this birth. I wonder if this is why this birth was so different and more drawn out. Hmmmmm... At any rate, they arrived at about 8:20 PM. Aunt Kyley arrived shortly thereafter. :) After everyone's arrival, my nurse midwife broke my water and then things really got moving! At about 10:00 PM, I felt like pushing and about 3-4 pushes later, Asa was born. This was unbelievable to me because I pushed for about 2 hours with Eden. Asa was placed up on my chest. She was so alert and so beautiful. The whole experience was so amazing and exhilarating. Without the loving support of my husband, doula, nurse midwife, and family, it would not have been so easy. I seriously thought about having an epidural for a second there. The contractions were so much more, shall we say, "intense" than with Eden! Oh gosh, and then ... Asa and I got to know each other in the hospital for a little less than two days. We came home on Monday, April 19th at about 1:00 PM. Alex was able to take off that week to be home with us, and Grandma Foster also stayed for the week. She did laundry, vacuumed and took full responsibility for Eden. This was wonderful for me because it allowed me to just worry about Asa and myself. Eden also thoroughly enjoyed having all of her Grandma's loving attention. Grandma left on Friday, April 23rd, and Alex had to head to work for the weekend. It was a little scary for me to suddenly have full responsibility for my two girls. I am happy to report though that we are doing wonderfully. Eden is such a good big sister. She helps me and is very concerned about Asa especially when she cries. We haven't noticed that Eden has exhibited any aggression towards Asa, so we are just enjoying it while it lasts. :) Well, that's the birth story. What a wonderful way to bring the fourth member of our little family into the world. ![]() |
